Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca
What was once the largest synagogue in Toledo, Santa Maria la Blanca is now one of the city’s icons. Its lavish white pillars have been an identity symbol for Toledo for centuries and for the history of the Jewish community in the city.
Santa Maria la Blanca will bring you back to another era with a peaceful break from the noisy world we live in today. Visiting this building fills visitors with the city’s Sephardi culture. It features a five-nave basilica structure with octagonal pillars oriented east to west with the central one taller than all the others. They’re separated by arcades with large circular, non-pointed horseshoe arches which reflects the Christian-Mozarabic influence.
The exquisite conservation means the building can still be seen as designed centuries before.
The large garden surrounding the walls of the old synagogue offer a chance to take a break and enjoy an unforgettable experience.
In recent years, a revolutionary dynamic LED lighting system is allowing visitors to enjoy this gem as never before.
